For many children, a warm, nutritious meal at Sinethemba is often their only one for the day. It gives them strength, focus, and the energy to learn, play, and grow.

For many children, home isn’t always a safe or stable place. At Sinethemba, they find a refuge, a place where they are protected, cared for, and surrounded by people who believe in them.

Education opens doors to brighter futures. At Sinethemba, children receive school uniforms, shoes, transport, and medical care, giving them the support they need to stay in school and succeed.

After-School Enrichment

Afternoons at Sinethemba are filled with learning and laughter. Through homework help, reading, art, and play, children build confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging.

Sinethemba is powered by its people. Nine dedicated local staff members; teachers, cooks, gardeners, and a project manager, earn livelihoods while making a daily difference in their community.

Our Story

A Community Built on Care

Sinethemba is a registered non-profit after-school care facility in Sinethemba, Worcester. For the past 15 years, we’ve provided meals, safety, and education to vulnerable children, giving them not only a brighter today, but also hope for tomorrow.

Locally Run, Locally Rooted

Today, Sinethemba employs 9 local staff, cooks, teachers, gardeners, and a project manager. Together, they provide hot meals, after-school care, and opportunities for 120 children every day.

How It Began

Our story started when Elizabeth, a retired community worker, opened her own home to orphaned, abused, and vulnerable children. Using her pension and small donations, she created a safe space where children could eat, learn, and heal.

In 2012, she was joined by Marie Botha, whose passion and support helped Sinethemba grow into the community project it is today.

Every meal, every smile, and every safe afternoon at Sinethemba is made possible by the generosity of supporters and local partnerships. Here are some of the milestones we’ve achieved recently:

Expanded Computer Lab

With help from the Rotary Club of Worcester, we doubled our lab’s capacity to 10 internet-enabled laptops, giving more children access to technology, learning, and new opportunities.

Vegetable Garden

Our garden boosts nutrition and teaches children sustainability and responsibility, funded by the Breede Gouritz Water Catchment Agency.

Growing Our Team

We’ve hired more local cooks and teachers to meet growing needs, creating jobs and ensuring every child receives care, attention, and support.

Music & Creative Lessons

Introduce music, dance, and arts & crafts, giving children new ways to express themselves, build confidence, and discover hidden talents.

Community Training

Equip other communities with skills to grow sustainable vegetable gardens, multiplying the impact of nutrition and self-reliance far beyond Sinethemba.

A 24-Seater Bus

Provide safe, daily transport to bring more children to our centre and support our young soccer players in reaching practices and matches.
